I recently announced that I would retire from Congress at the end of my current term, which ends Jan. 3, 2011. While I regret leaving when so much more needs to be done, I know it is time for me to step down. I am in good health, but I recognize that I should complete this chapter of my life. I look forward to spending more time with my wife and my family in Grand Rapids.

Thank you to the people of the 3rd Congressional District for your support over the years. I am honored and humbled by the trust you have placed in me and I will continue to work hard to serve you well through the end of my final term.
